Kerry campaign adds staff for stretch

WASHINGTON, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Several veteran Democrats have reportedly joined John Kerry's campaign for the final weeks of the presidential political season.

Joining the campaign as Kerry's senior advisor is former White House press secretary Joe Lockhart. Former senior U.S. State Department official Susan Rice has also joined Kerry's campaign, as has U.S. Rep. Mel Levine, D-Calif., who will act as a policy adviser on Israeli and Middle Eastern areas.

"It says a lot about the strength of the Democratic Party that we are able to bring in such experienced individuals to help us cross the finish line first in November," Kerry-Edwards Campaign Manager Mary Beth Cahill said.

"We welcome each of our new additions and look forward to putting their talents and experience to work in this campaign to build a stronger America," she added.
