TEL AVIV, Israel, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom reportedly told the cabinet there was no truth to claims Israel spied on the United States.
Shalom was referring to reports that Pentagon aide Larry Franklin passed information to the pro-Israeli lobby, AIPAC, in Washington that passed it on to Israel.
A cabinet statement said Shalom told his colleagues: "Ministry checks have shown that the entire Israeli Embassy acted according to procedures and never deviated either from diplomatic norms or from the good and open dialogue between Israel and the United States."
The cabinet statement added that embassy personnel "maintain contacts with all U.S. administration bodies and (Shalom said) that there is no truth to the claims that Israel either spied on -- or acted in any way against -- its best ally, the United States."
