GOP honors veterans at national convention

NEW YORK, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- The Republicans honored U.S. veterans Monday with a salute to their courage and sacrifice as part of its "A Nation of Courage" primetime program.

Actress Angie Harmon and her husband, NFL quarterback Jason Sehorn, welcomed Medal of Honor recipients Rodolfo Hernandex, of North Carolina, and Thomas Hudner, of Massachusetts, for the bravery they demonstrated in the Korean War.

Convention officials said 18 percent of the delegates attending the convention identify themselves as veterans or military reservists.

"Approximately 4,800 delegates and alternates in 55 delegations will travel to New York City this month. Over 15 percent are veterans, which means that approximately 720 men and women who have worn a U.S. uniform will represent their home states in New York City." the Republicans said.

"Another 3 percent, or approximately 140 delegates, identify themselves as military reservists."
