FORT COLLINS, Colo., Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Colorado State University officials Monday said students involved in weekend riots near the campus will face dismissal from the university.
CSU President Larry Penley issued the zero tolerance statement after rioting Friday and Saturday nights west of the Fort Collins campus.
Police arrested two people and used tear gas to break up the disturbances that occurred during partying in the area, the Denver Post reported.
Penley said, "This sort of behavior will not be tolerated at Colorado State on or off our campus, and any student involved will face severe consequences, including dismissal from the university."
Several people were seriously injured during the second night of rioting that ended early Sunday, The Post reported.
Police Sgt. Craig Horton said troublemakers threw rocks, bottles and Molotov cocktails at officers and damaged two police cars. One "improvised explosive" littered the street with hundreds of nails, he said.
The zero tolerance policy will be enforced at Colorado State regardless of any action taken by local authorities, said Linda Kuk, vice president for student affairs.
