Amber Frey takes stand in Peterson trial

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Amber Frey's cross-examination began Monday in the California murder trial of Scott Peterson, who is accused of killing his pregnant wife and unborn child.

The questioning by defense lawyer Mark Geragos was expected to focus on a long series of taped phone conversations Frey had with Peterson, during which she tried unsuccessfully to discover if he had anything to do with his wife's disappearance.

Frey and Peterson carried on a brief romantic relationship just prior to the time Laci Peterson vanished from her Modesto home. Frey volunteered to help police detectives gain evidence against Scott Peterson.

Analysts outside the courthouse expected Geragos would not keep Frey on the stand very long and would limit his cross to the fact Peterson steadfastly denied any role in his wife's murder.
