ABBOTSFORD, British Columbia, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- A Canadian teenager trying to get rid of a wasps' nest outside his family's farmhouse started a fire that destroyed the home and killed his dog.
The 16-year-old, with the help of a friend, torched the nest and then tried to put out the fire themselves, the Vancouver Province newspaper reported Friday. But the fire spread out of control.

Abbotsford Assistant Fire Chief Mike Helmer told the newspaper that the teens are "traumatized" by the destruction.
"It was absolutely the wrong thing to do," Helmer said.
