TRIPOLI, Libya, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir has asked his Libyan counterpart to help resolve the crisis in Darfur, it was reported Tuesday.
The Libyan News Agency, JANA, said Sudanese Foreign Minister Mustafa Ismail gave Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi a letter from al-Bashir in which the Sudanese president detailed the situation in Darfur, west of Sudan.
"The Sudanese president praised Ghadafi's stance that rejected any type of foreign intervention in Sudan and foreign interference in the African Union's internal affairs," JANA said.
It said al-Bashir also thanked Gadhafi for his constant interest and concern for resolving the crisis in Darfur and securing peace in the region.
Sudanese authorities have officially asked Gadhafi and Chad to intervene in Darfur, which is suffering what the United Nations described as the world's worst humanitarian crisis.
