Sa'adat decided to begin his hunger strike in solidarity with thousands of Palestinian prisoners held into Israeli jails who went on a gradual open-ended hunger strike to protest what they called "the humiliating policy against them."

Sa'adat told reporters on telephone from inside his cell that he started a hunger strike in sympathy with "my brothers and comrades into the Israeli jails."

He also said in a communiqué that "the struggle of our brave prisoners into Israeli prisons will be continued to defend the freedom of the Palestinian people in confronting the Israeli war of elimination carried out against them."
