Kobe Bryant sex trial will not be delayed

EAGLE, Colo., Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Colorado prosecutors in the Kobe Bryant sexual assault case have failed in their bid to obtain a delay in the start of the trial, CNN reported Saturday.

Judge Terry Ruckriegle's decision to not grant prosecutors' request means jury selection in the criminal case is set to begin Aug. 27.

In his request for a delay, District Attorney Mark Hurlbert cited the court's slow response to requests from the prosecution, delayed rulings and failure to allow the prosecution to respond after pretrial testimony by a doctor for the defense was mistakenly posted on the court's Web site.

Ruckriegle did rule in favor of the prosecution on one key aspect: The accuser's mental health and medical history will not be admissible.
