Nevada inmate executed overnight

CARSON CITY, Nev., Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Convicted killer Terry Davis was put to death at Nevada State Prison for the 1999 murder of a Reno woman.

Davis had no final words prior to the lethal injection that carried out the death sentence late Thursday for the strangulation of Ilona Strumanis during a drinking binge. He was bolstered by a final meal of cheeseburgers and Coke and couple of Valium.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal said the victim was a Russian immigrant and had no family members present to witness the grim procedure.

Davis was the second Nevada inmate put to death this year and the 11th since the state reinstituted capital punishment in 1977.
