Another Lebanese hostage released in Iraq

BEIRUT, Lebanon, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- A Lebanese hostage held in Iraq has been freed, becoming the third Lebanese national to be liberated in the war-torn country in 24 hours, official reports said.

A Foreign Ministry source told UPI Wednesday that Foreign Minister Jean Obeod was informed Tuesday night about the release of truck driver Nasser al-Jundi, one of four truckers seized in Iraq last week.

He was the third Lebanese to be liberated without any condition in the last 24 hours. Two of his colleagues, his brother and another Lebanese truck driver, remain in captivity.

A Christian businessman and another truck driver were released on Monday and Tuesday, and their families said they would be returning home in the next few days.

Obeid declared earlier this week that Lebanon would not bow to blackmail by the kidnappers over Lebanese hostages.

He said the Lebanese embassy in Baghdad was following up with the Iraqi authorities the case of the Lebanese hostages.

Many Lebanese have been kidnapped in Iraq in the last few months, and all were released except one, a Shiite, who was killed by his kidnappers.
