WASHINGTON, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Twenty-six counties in Kentucky became eligible for federal aid Friday when President George W. Bush declared them disaster areas, the White House said.

The counties were struck by severe storms and flooding on July 13-15.

Named in the declaration were the counties of Adair, Allen, Barren, Breckinridge, Butler, Clinton, Cumberland, Daviess, Edmonson, Grayson, Green, Hancock, Hardin, Hart, Larue, Meade, Metcalfe, Monroe, Nelson, Ohio, Russell, Spencer, Taylor, Warren Washington and Wayne.

The federal aid to supplement state and local disaster funding would be made available to the Commonwealth of Kentucky, local governments and certain nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for the repair or replacement of damaged facilities.

Federal money would also be available on the same basis for hazard mitigation measures, the White House said.
