Ramsey in tight Michigan House race

DETROIT, July 29 (UPI) -- John Ramsey, father of slain child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey, is locked in a tight Michigan House race though ahead in money and fame.

Ramsey has raised more money than any of the other five candidates running for the 105th Michigan House District seat and is recognized more readily than his challengers, the Detroit Free Press said.

But, so far, polls show Ramsey's fame and the nature of his fame have led to mixed results. Five days before Tuesday's primary, a poll shows Ramsey locked in a tight race with three others.

Ramsey, who now lives in Charlevoix, trails Kevin Elsenheimer, an Antrim County attorney, who leads with 20 percent. Ramsey has 18 percent.

Ramsey and his wife, Patsy, were the focus of the investigation into their daughter's 1996 killing, but a grand jury investigation ended in 1999 without charges. The slaying, which occurred in the family home in Boulder, Colo., remains unsolved.
