
BOSTON, July 28 (UPI) -- Twelve retired generals and admirals have endorsed Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, the Kerry campaign announced Wednesday.
The endorsements were announced the same day four-star Gen. John Shalikashvili, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs is scheduled to address the Democratic National Convention in Boston's FleetCenter.
"I believe in John Kerry," Shalikashvili said. "He commanded in combat and did so with bravery and distinction. He knows from experience a commander's responsibility to his troops."
Other retired senior officers endorsing Kerry included Gen. Joseph Hoar of the U.S. Marine Corps, former commander-in-chief, U.S. Central Command; Gen. Wesley K. Clark, former NATO supreme commander; Gen. Merrill A. McPeak, former chief of staff of the U.S. Air Force; and Adm. Stansfield Turner, former commander of the U.S. Second Fleet and former director of the Central Intelligence Agency.
