Falwell faces campaign finance fight

WASHINGTON, July 27 (UPI) -- A nonpartisan group has filed a campaign finance complaint against a group controlled by the Rev. Jerry Falwell, the New York Times said Tuesday.

The Campaign Legal Center asserted the falwell.com web site had violated federal campaign election finance laws by urging the reelection of President George W. Bush and soliciting money for a political action committee.

Falwell denied his group had broken any rules: "This is just another Democratic National Committee surrogate organization attempting to intimidate conservative pastors and their church members to prevent them from exercising their First Amendment rights," he said in a statement, the New York Times said.
