SAN DIEGO, July 23 (UPI) -- Nancy Reagan visited the aircraft carrier named after her husband Friday morning, joining the vessel for the last stage of a journey to its homeport of San Diego.
Mrs. Reagan traveled to the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan by helicopter. She was greeted by Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz and introduced to many of the crew.
KABC-TV reported that fireboats formed an official escort for the carrier as it entered San Diego harbor while scores of civilian vessels joined as unofficial escorts.
Mrs. Reagan toured the Ronald Reagan Room on the carrier, which displays the president's military uniform and movie posters.
