Wife who killed husband sued by in-laws

HOUSTON, July 22 (UPI) -- The parents of a man slain by his wife have sued their daughter-in-law for wrongful death after standing by her during her Houston murder trial.

Gerald and Mildred Harris asked for a jury trial to determine monetary damages in their lawsuit against Clara Harris, the Houston Chronicle said Thursday.

Clara Harris, 46, was convicted in February 2003 of murder by running over her husband David Harris with her Mercedes-Benz after finding him with his mistress at the Nassau Bay Hilton.

She was sentenced to 20 years in prison and is serving time at the Mountain View Unit in Gatesville. During Clara Harris' trial, Gerald and Mildred Harris accompanied her to the courthouse every day.

Gerald Harris, a retired Pearland school district administrator, and his wife withdrew a similar lawsuit from Galveston County earlier this summer.

The lawsuit asks for unspecified damages for pain and mental anguish, loss of companionship, pecuniary loss and loss of inheritance.
