She said the central government would provide funds from the National Calamity Fund, the Asian Age reported.

Gandhi, who Sunday visited some of the injured children in the hospital, said $1,000 would be given to each of their families, as well as to each family that lost a child. The remaining money would be used to provide new fireproof roofs to replace the thatched sheds in schools in and around Kumbakonam, the district where the fire took place.

Ninety young students of the Sri Krishna School died in a blaze caused by a spark from its thatched kitchen on Friday.
