CHICAGO, July 16 (UPI) -- A former deputy drug czar who resigned to seek a U.S. Senate nomination engaged in "lewd" behavior at an office party, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Dr. Andrea Grubb Barthwell was sent to anti-sexual harassment training after the 2002 incident. The newspaper said an internal report said that Barthwell made a series of sexual jokes after a subordinate made a verbal slip, calling his daughter's boyfriend "my boyfriend."
Barthwell hopes to win the Republican Senate nomination in Illinois. The party's former candidate, Jack Ryan, dropped out of the race after a judge released divorce papers in which his wife accused him of attempting to force her into public sex.
The report also said that while Barthwell was with the Office of National Drug Policy, her temper was so bad that the atmosphere in her department was "abusive" to the point that many employees resigned.
Barthwell blamed disgruntled former employees and said that those who left could not keep up with the pace that she set.
