The state's famed tea gardens and a game park containing 1,600 rhinos are also completely submerged. The federal government has released nearly $43.5 million in flood relief.

The floods have also affected more than 4 million people in the northern Indian state of Bihar, where army and paramilitary forces are dropping food and emergency medicines from the air, as roads and rail lines have all washed away.

Across southern Asia, more than 10 million people are affected by the seasonal flooding. Across India, the death toll has surpassed 100, while in Nepal, 50 people perished in flash flooding and resultant landslides.
