Iraq to appoint Jordan ambassador

AMMAN, Jordan, July 12 (UPI) -- Iraq plans to appoint an ambassador in Amman -- one of 43 envoys to be accredited worldwide in the coming weeks, Iraqi diplomatic sources said Monday.

The sources underscored the importance of having a resident Iraqi ambassador in Amman in view of the close relations and the mission assumed by the embassy in Jordan, especially granting entry visas to Iraq.

Currently, a charge d'affaires is running the Amman embassy, sources said.

Jordan announced last month it will appoint an ambassador to its embassy in Baghdad, which is to reopen as soon as the security situation permits.
