Author and ex-Reagan aide Menges dies

WASHINGTON, July 12 (UPI) -- Constantine Menges, a former Reagan national security aide and most recently a senior fellow of the Hudson Institute, has died at age 64.

The Hudson Institute, which announced his death Monday, said Menges might best be remembered for his central role in planning the 1983 U.S. liberation of the island of Grenada.

The author of a number of articles on U.S. foreign policy, as well as a memoir entitled "Inside the National Security Council," Meneges's work most recently focused on what he believed was a resurgence of Fidel Castro as a significant player in Latin American politics and on the threats posed to the United States by the emergence of the People's Republic of China as a global superpower.

Menges, who died Sunday from complications related to cancer, is survived by his wife, Nancy, and their son, Christopher.
