U.S. lawsuit says Arab Bank aided terror

NEW YORK, July 7 (UPI) -- Arab Bank of Jordan is being sued for supporting terrorists by U.S. relatives of Palestinian bombing victims, the New York Times said Wednesday.

The suit, filed in New York, alleges Arab Bank administered an insurance program that provided a standard benefit worth $5,316.06 to the families of Palestinians who were killed in attacks on Israel, including those who blew themselves up.

It alleges bank officials knew the funds passing through their accounts would support or encourage violence against civilians, and seeks $875 million for the U.S. relatives.

In a statement, Arab Bank said its lawyers had not been able to study the suit, but called the allegations "completely false and totally irresponsible." The bank said it operated under strict regulation in the United States and Jordan.

Arab Bank has $24 billion in assets and has branches in Europe, the United States and throughout the Palestinian territories.
