Threat evacuates D.C.'s City Hall

WASHINGTON, July 7 (UPI) -- A bomb threat forced the evacuation of City Hall in Washington, D.C. Wednesday.

The Wilson Building was emptied shortly before 4 p.m. after city officials were informed by New York police they had received a threat to the building and possibly Mayor Anthony Williams. Traffic was stopped northbound on 14th Street near Pennsylvania Avenue during capital's rush hour.

The building is near the White House, which is at 16th and Pennsylvania. A battalion of police and vehicles were on the scene and bomb-sniffing dogs were in the building, an officer said.

One City Hall staffer told United Press International the evacuation was delayed as officials tried to decide how to respond to the threat and some employees were confused about what to do and when.
