U.S. dependents ordered out of Bahrain

BAHRAIN, Bahrain, July 5 (UPI) -- U.S. military officials ordered 650 dependents to leave Bahrain out of concern over possible terror attacks, CNN reported Monday.

Gen. John Abizaid's order follows "credible intelligence" that the tiny Persian Gulf state could be the next site of a terrorist kidnapping or other attack against Americans, Pentagon sources said.

Bahrain is headquarters for the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet and maritime components of U.S. Central Command, and the military has 4,500 service members stationed there. There are 350 military and Defense Department families in the tiny island nation.

About 650 children and spouses are affected by the order.
