Kerry begins three-day focus on leadership

WASHINGTON, July 5 (UPI) -- Sen. John F. Kerry, D-Mass., rounded out the Fourth of July weekend preparing for a three-day campaign swing focusing on the need for responsible leadership.

Kerry, the Democrats' putative presidential nominee, will begin the tour Tuesday at a campaign rally in Pittsburgh, then will travel to Indianapolis for a speech to the 47th quadrennial conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

The swing's first day will conclude with a speech in Washington, D.C., to the annual meeting of the National Education Association, the nation's largest teachers' union.

Kerry, who just finished a three-day Midwest bus tour through several target presidential states, spent Monday in Pittsburgh where, his campaign said, he and his wife, millionaire philanthropist Teresa Heinz-Kerry, hosted a barbecue for friends and campaign supporters.
