Iraq accuses neighbors of lax borders

BAGHDAD, July 4 (UPI) -- Iraq accused its neighbors Sunday of failing to stop foreign fighters from entering the country.

Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said several countries had made unfulfilled promises of border cooperation, the BBC reported.

However, Zebari said there was no evidence that any state had a deliberate policy to help such groups.

King Abdullah of Jordan said that the destabilization of Iraq was a dangerous game for its neighbors to play. He said instability in Iraq could easily spill over into other countries.

Zebari said that while no government had been accused of helping the militants, there may have been lower-level involvement from security agencies. He also said countries like Kuwait that had expressed willingness to cooperate had nationals involved in terrorist networks.

The minister also emphasized the issue had to be solved by Iraq and its neighbors, without U.S. involvement.

"We will try to take action at the appropriate time, this is an Iraqi job," he said.
