Baghdad blast kills top ministry official

BAGHDAD, July 1 (UPI) -- A car bomb explosion killed Ihsan Karim, a senior Iraqi finance ministry official, in Baghdad Thursday, as well as a civilian who was passing by.

Security sources said that Karim, director general of the ministry's auditing department, died in the explosion that ripped through his car in the Yarmouk neighborhood while he was on his way to the ministry.

A passerby was also killed in the blast, three days after the Iraqi interim government of Iyad Allawi took over official powers from the Coalition authority.

Karim is the fourth Iraqi official to be killed in the last few weeks.
