Musharraf questions kidnappers' faith

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, June 30 (UPI) -- Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf Wednesday condemned Iraqi hostage-takers, saying he did not understand what religion they practice.

"I do not know what Islam they practice. We are also Muslims but we do not understand their religion," Musharraf told a briefing in Islamabad.

Musharraf also disputed the militants' claim to fighting a holy war.

"There's nothing holy about kidnapping innocent people, what's holy about it," he asked.

Musharraf urged the militants to release a Pakistani hostage they have threatened to behead.

Iraqi militants kidnapped Amjad Hafeez, 26, last week and have threatened to behead him if Pakistan does not close its mission in Baghdad.
