Oregon teen missing since 2003 is found

BEAVERTON, Ore., June 23 (UPI) -- The mystery of an Oregon teenager who ran off with her softball coach last fall was solved Wednesday when the couple turned up in Tennessee.

Police in Beaverton, Ore., said Mimi Smith, 16, and Andrew Garver, 38, were located in the Knoxville area after Garver called his former wife and said he and the girl had been involved in a traffic accident.

Smith's disappearance from suburban Beaverton last year resulted in a warrant being issued for Garver's arrest on a kidnapping charge.

Although police believe Smith willingly accompanied Garver, she was only 15 and too young to give her legal consent.
