AMARILLO, Texas, June 22 (UPI) -- A shattering night of tennis-ball size hail in Amarillo, Texas, has left scores of broken windows, skylights and car windshields across the city.
The National Weather Service reported two tornadoes near the Panhandle city Monday night, but the hail and gale-force winds did most of the damage, the Amarillo Globe-News reported.
There were no official damage estimates available early Tuesday, but officials said it would probably be in the millions of dollars, the Globe-News reported.
Cars were heavily damaged at several car dealerships in the city. A hospital reported several windows were shattered and businesses also lost skylights.
Bill Crenshaw, spokesman for Xcel Energy, said crews were working to repair downed power lines and restore power to customers as soon as possible.
Less than an inch of rain was recorded but winds were clocked as high as 68 mph at Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport, the weather service reported.
