South Korean lawmakers criticize Bush

SEOUL, June 20 (UPI) -- A group of junior lawmakers from South Korea's ruling Uri Party Sunday planned to make a statement Monday, criticizing the United States-led Iraqi war.

The statement will also call for an apology from U.S. President George W. Bush, the Korea Times reported Sunday.

The move is likely to stir up diplomatic fuss in ROK-U.S. relations because it is the first time South Korean lawmakers will have collectively expressed a critical opinion of the U.S. president's foreign policy.

In the statement, the lawmakers will urge Bush to explain the recently released report that there was no link between Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and terrorist organization al-Qaida.

The National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, dubbed the 9/11 commission, released the report last Wednesday, showing the invasion of Iraq was conducted on the inaccurate assumption that Saddam Hussein had connections with al-Qaida.
