Saudi king vows to stop terrorists

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, June 20 (UPI) -- Saudi Arabia's King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz said Sunday his government will not allow terrorists to destabilize the security of the kingdom.

In a rare public appearance opening the Consultative Council, the ailing king said his country "will do all it can to confront terrorism in all its forms, and it is fighting it locally and condemning it internationally."

The monarch said it was regrettable his kingdom is facing such terrorist acts, adding the aim of the attackers was to "destabilize the security, an objective that is impossible to achieve."

Fahd added, "we will not allow a corrupt category, led by deviant ideas, to affect the security of the nation."

The king's comments came two days after suspected al-Qaida terrorists beheaded U.S. citizen Paul Johnson Jr. following his kidnapping in the Saudi capital.
