YANGOON, Myanmar, June 19 (UPI) -- Pro-democracy activists in Myanmar marked the 59th birthday of opposition leader Aun San Suu Kyi with demonstrations in the capital, Yangoon.
Hundreds of demonstrators went to the headquarters of her National League for Democracy where monks offered prayers and party representatives called for her release, the BBC reported.
The pro-democracy commemoration came as the U.S State Department again called for Suu Kyi and her deputy, Tin Oo, to be freed.
The two have spent more than a year under house arrest.
