Nurse convicted of killing two for beds

CHESTER, England, June 18 (UPI) -- A nurse in Britain accused of attempting to kill two elderly patients to free up their beds was convicted Friday.

The BBC reported Friday Barbara Salisbury was found guilty of trying to kill May Taylor, 88, and Frank Owen, 92, in Leighton Hospital, in Crewe, England.

The nurse from from Pontybodkin, Wales, was sentenced to two five-year sentences to run concurrently.

Earlier, the former nurse was acquitted of the attempted murders of James Byrne, 76, and Reuben Thompson, 81.

She had denied the allegations.

Salisbury said she may have told Byrne "it is OK to go now" but only to soothe the dying man.
