Official: Qureia and Peres in contact

GAZA, June 16 (UPI) -- Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia's chief of staff said Wednesday Qureia and Israeli Labor Party leader Shimon Peres have been communicating.

Hassan Abu Lebda told reporters if the Labor Party joins the current Israeli government, there will be a chance to convince the the Israelis they have a Palestinian partner.

Israel radio reported Tuesday Peres resumed his contacts with Qureia without seeking the approval of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. The report said Peres has had good relations with Qureia since Peres served as foreign minister in a previous Israeli cabinet.
