MIAMI, June 14 (UPI) -- Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C., spent the weekend in Florida stumping for presumptive Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.
The visit and others around the nation in recent weeks have raised speculation that he is seeking the vice presidential nomination, The Miami Herald said.
Edwards, who was defeated by Kerry in the presidential primaries earlier this year, was at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church north of Miami, a mostly black congregation.
He was invited by Rep. Kendrick Meek, D-Fla.
During his introduction of Edwards, Meek said, he is "someone who is being closely considered to be the running mate of John Kerry, to be vice president of the United States. You have to say amen."
Edwards did not speak of the speculation surrounding the vice presidential slot. Instead he delivered a version of his "Two Americas" speech he developed during the primary campaign.
"We still live in a country that is in way too many ways divided by race. We have so much work to do," Edwards said.
