PETA compares meat eaters to Nazis

GLASGOW, Scotland, June 10 (UPI) -- A militant animal rights group raised anger and disgust in Scotland with posters comparing meat eaters to Nazis and hens to Holocaust victims.

Activists with the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, known as PETA, held up posters in Glasgow's George Square Wednesday showing a picture of Nazi prisoners next to one of chickens, and caged Jewish children beside piglets, the Glasgow Daily Record reported Thursday.

The slogan on the posters read, "To animals, all people are Nazis."

Jim Murphy, a member of Parliament from Glasgow and himself a vegetarian, condemned the campaign and called the activists "nutters," the newspaper said.

"This is a disgusting insult to those murdered by the Nazis," he said. "No one can equate eating meat with the darkest period in history."

PETA refused to apologize for the protest.
