Bush: U.S. looking into Libya plot report

SAVANNAH, Ga., June 10 (UPI) -- President Bush Thursday said the United States was looking into claims Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi tried to kill the Saudi crown prince.

"We're going to make sure we fully understand the veracity of the plot line," he said. "And when we find out the facts, we will deal with them accordingly."

Libya and the United States have come closer in recent months following Gadhafi's unexpected decision to renounce weapons of mass destruction.

The allegations were made in a New York Times report published Thursday. Libya's Foreign Minister Abdel Rahman Shalqam Thursday denied the report.

Bush's comments came at the end of the Group of Eight summit in Georgia. The G8 are Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States.
