SAN FRANCISCO, June 9 (UPI) -- A black woman has sued Bebe Stores for race discrimination after a San Francisco manager told her "you people always do this."

"You people always do this ... I know you wore it because that is what you people do," Samantha Allen-Wise said the store manager told her when she went to return an outfit with the tags still attached to a Bebe retail store.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported Wednesday that Allen-Wise, of Oakland, Calif., seeks unspecified damages, including punitive damages for demeaning and humiliating treatment at the Bebe store.

"Retail discrimination is a very widespread problem that no one talks about because minorities are most often the victims," said Michael Harris of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights, one of Allen-Wise's attorneys.

Allen-Wise said she bought a skirt and blouse to wear to a wedding, but when the wedding was canceled she returned the items, with the price tags still attached. The manager accused her of forging the price tags.

Allen-Wise asked for police, but when they arrived the manager alleged Allen-Wise has struck her. Police rejected the accusation after examining a store videotape, the lawsuit said.
