Texas flooding hits homes, roads

FORT WORTH, Texas, June 9 (UPI) -- Flash flood warnings were posted Wednesday in areas around San Antonio and Fort Worth in Texas where high water has flooded homes and closed roads.

A stream of heavy rain pushed up from the Gulf of Mexico, dumping up to 8 inches of rain during the past two days west of Fort Worth, WFAA-TV in Dallas reported.

Swollen streams in the North Texas area have flooded as many as 50 roads because the ground is saturated from recent rains. A number of area lakes are at capacity.

A voluntary evacuation was ordered in some homes near Granbury, southwest of Fort Worth, WFAA-TV reported.

Similar flooding was reported in the Hill Country west of San Antonio from the same storm system.

The Dallas-Fort Worth area was hit by heavy rain, hail and high winds last week that knocked out power to more than 500,000 homes and businesses.
