Israel, Ethiopia sign cooperation deal

JERUSALEM, June 2 (UPI) -- Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom and Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi Wednesday signed a pact for cultural, educational and scientific cooperation.

An Israeli Foreign Ministry statement said the agreement deals with cooperation in the realms of culture, education, science, arts, journalism, sports, and youth. It is designed to promote and encourage joint projects, curricula and human resources.

The agreement is based on the model of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the Foreign Ministry said.

It was the first time that an Ethiopian prime minister visited Israel.
