A militant fired a Kalachnikov assault rifle at the armor plated bus. The racing white jeep hit an earthen mound and exploded, Zuarets said.

The driver of the jeep was identified as Mohamed Abu Jamoos, 22, of Rafah.

Two soldiers in a jeep that accompanied the bus were slightly injured when their vehicle collided with the bus, the army spokesman said.

The Israelis closed the border terminal. It was unclear whether it will reopen Saturday, Anat Mor, a spokeswoman for the Airports Authority. which runs the terminal, said. In recent days humanitarian supplies have been crossing, she told UPI.

Three Palestinian militant groups -- Fatah, Islamic Jihad and the Popular Resistance Committee of the Intifada -- jointly claimed responsibility for the attack in a leaflet.
