BERLIN, May 27 (UPI) -- German Defense Minister Peter Struck Thursday denied newspaper reports that German soldiers were photographed torturing prisoners in Kosovo.
Struck contradicted reports in the German newspaper Bild that pictures exist of German troops abusing prisoners, German newspaper Die Welt reported.
"I am sure that nothing will be found," Struck said.
Struck called for an investigation in response to a Wednesday Bild article claiming a soldier possessed the incriminating photos. The newspaper did not print any of the alleged photos.
The minister said Thursday that the investigation had found the soldier who had claimed to possess the pictures and determined he had no such photos.
"Our soldiers did not deserve to be discredited in this way," Struck said as he called for apologies from politicians who criticized German troops on the basis of the Bild report.
