Bush-oil industry link seen by consumers

UTICA, N.Y., May 21 (UPI) -- A poll by New York's Zogby International indicates voters think the Bush administration's perceived ties to the oil industry are hurting consumers.

Faced with gasoline prices soaring to more than $2.00 per gallon, most likely voters say the Bush administration's close ties to the oil industry are hurting consumers, Zogby said Friday.

By nearly 5-1, voters said Bush's close ties to the oil industry were hurting, rather than helping, consumers, the poll found.

The poll, paid for by the Wilderness Society, interviewed 985 likely voters chosen at random nationwide from May 10-13, 2004 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.
