Toothless Brazilians number 26 million

SAO PAULO, May 19 (UPI) -- Twenty-six million Brazilians, the majority of them among the nation's poorest, don't have any teeth, according to a recent survey.

Of Brazil's 179 million people, 14.4 percent are toothless, according to the Brazilian polling firm Fiocruz.

In a survey for the World Health Organization fiocruz also found that 10.1 percent of the population is obese, while 28.5 percent are considered underweight.

On the mental health front, 19.3 percent of Brazilians are depressed.

The Fiocruz firm polled 5,000 people throughout the country in 2003.
