BELGRADE, Serbia, May 19 (UPI) -- Radical nationalist Tomislav Nikolic holds a commanding lead ahead of Serbia's June presidential elections, an opinion poll suggested Wednesday.
Nikolic, the candidate of the Serbian Radical Party -- a hard-line nationalist party whose leader is on trial in the Netherlands for war crimes -- was given a lead of more than 10 percentage points in the poll conducted by the Marten Board International agency.
Nikolic was supported by 30.8 percent of respondents compared with 20 percent for Democratic Party candidate Boris Tadic and 18.6 percent for Dragan Marsicanin who is backed by the government.
The poll was conducted before Yugoslav Princess Jelisaveta Karadjordjevic, who announced her candidacy last week, had begun her campaign.
The presidential election is scheduled for June 13.
Candidates need to take more than 50 percent of the vote in the first round of voting to secure outright victory. Otherwise, a runoff would be held two weeks later.
