TEL AVIV, Israel, May 19 (UPI) -- The Israeli army Wednesday ordered all males, 16 years old or older, in Rafah's Tel Sultan neighborhood, to gather in a local school.
The soldiers enetered Tel Sultan Tuesday in an operation designed to capture militants and find arms smuggling tunnels that link the southern Gaza Strip with Egypt.
Ha'aretz said armed men were ordered to turn themselves in holding white flags, a procedure the army had taken in previous operations in the West Bank.
Earlier, soldiers shot and killed two Palestinian gunmen who fired at them in Rafah.
Israel Radio said the army demolished five houses in Rafah Wednesday. In one of those houses lived Islamic Jihad militant Ibrahim Ahmed who on May 2 killed an pregnant Israeli woman and her four daughters, the army spokesman noted.
