YOKKAICHI, Japan, May 15 (UPI) -- A woman in Japan died Saturday and her husband suffered a leg injury after their son attacked them with a knife while they were sleeping.
Police said a man from Yokkaichi made an emergency call to police early Saturday, saying, "We've been stabbed by our son," Mainichi Daily News reported.
Officers rushed to the family's home and immediately arrested the 28-year-old son for attempted murder.
The woman suffered stab wounds to the stomach in the attack and was taken to a hospital, but died shortly afterwards from blood loss.
Her husband escaped with injuries to his thigh.
Investigators said the son grabbed a knife after he finished taking a bath, then entered his parents bedroom room and suddenly stabbed them.
Police said they are investigating the son's motives for the attack, but said he had a history of psychiatric care and was currently receiving regular treatment.
