Saudi Arabia arrests 2 armed suspects

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, May 15 (UPI) -- Saudi Arabian authorities have reportedly arrested two suspects who illegally entered the country with arms and ammunition.

The pro-government Ukaz daily said the unidentified men were in possession of four machine guns, two rifles and 5,000 rounds of ammunition in Wadi Bakh, in the southern part of the kingdom.

The newspaper said five suspicious men had been placed under surveillance before two were arrested. The three others managed to flee "with large amounts of drugs and hashish," the newspaper said.

Saudi authorities have escalated their campaign against smugglers along the 1,100 mile (1,800-kilometer) border with Yemen.
